Dr. Joseph Price wrote a highly controversial book in the late sixties titled Coronaries/Cholesterol/Chlorine and concluded that nothing can negate the incontrovertible fact, the basic cause of atherosclerosis and resulting entities such as heart attacks and stroke, is chlorine.”
Dr. Price later headed up a study using chickens as test subjects, where two groups of several hundred birds were observed throughout their span to maturity.
One group was given water with chlorine and the other without.
The group raised with chlorine, when autopsied, showed some level of heart or circulatory disease in every specimen, the group without had no incidence of disease. The group with chlorine under winter conditions, showed outward signs of poor circulation, shivering, drooped feathers and a reduced level of activity.
The group without chlorine grew faster, larger and displayed vigorous health.
This study was well recepted in the poultry industry and is still used as a reference today.
As a result, most large poultry producers use dechlorinated water.
It would be a common sense conclusion that if regular chlorinated tap water is not good enough for the chickens, then it probably is not good enough for us humans!

There is a lot of well founded concern about chlorine.
When chlorine is added to our water, it combines with other natural compounds to form Trihalomethanes (chlorination byproducts), or THMs.
These chlorine byproducts trigger the production of free radicals in the body, causing cell damage, and are highly carcinogenic.
“Although concentrations of these carcinogens (THMs) are low, it is precisely these low levels that cancer scientists believe are responsible for the majority of human cancers in the United States“.

Simply stated chlorine is a pesticide, as defined by the U.S. EPA, who’s sole purpose is to kill living organisms.
When we consume water containing chlorine, it kills some part of us, destroying cells and tissue inside our body.
Dr. Robert Carlson, a highly respected University of Minnesota researcher who’s work is sponsored by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency, sums it up by claiming ,
“the chlorine problem is similar to that of air pollution”, and adds that “chlorine is the greatest crippler and killer of modern times!”

Breast cancer, which now effects one in every eight women in North America, has recently been linked to the accumulation of chlorine compounds in the breast tissue. A study carried out in Hartford Connecticut, the first of it’s kind in North America, found that, “women with breast cancer have 50% to 60% higher levels of organochlorines (chlorination byproducts) in their breast tissue than women without breast cancer.”

One of the most shocking components to all of these studies is that up to 2/3s of our harmful exposure to chlorine is due to inhalation of steam and skin absorption while showering.
A warm shower opens up the pores of the skin and allows for excelerated absorption of chlorine and other chemicals in water.
The steam we inhale while showering can contain up to 50 times the level of chemicals than tap water due to the fact that chlorine and most other contaminants vaporize much faster and at a lower temperature than water.
Inhalation is a much more harmful means of exposure since the chlorine gas (chloroform) we inhale goes directly into our blood stream.
When we drink contaminated water the toxins are partially filtered out by our kidneys and digestive system.
Chlorine vapors are known to be a strong irritant to the sensitive tissue and bronchial passages inside our lungs, it was used as a chemical weapon in World War II.
The inhalation of chlorine is a suspected cause of asthma and bronchitis, especially in children… which has increased 300% in the last two decades.
“Showering is suspected as the primary cause of elevated levels of chloroform in nearly every home because of chlorine in the water.”
Dr Lance Wallace, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Chlorine in shower water also has a very negative cosmetic effect, robbing our skin and hair of moisture and elasticity, resulting in a less vibrant and youthful appearance. Anyone who has ever swam in a chlorinated pool can relate to the harsh effects that chlorine has on the skin and hair.
What’s surprising is that we commonly find higher levels of chlorine in our tap water than is recommended safe for swimming pools.

Aside from all the health risks related to chlorine in our water, it is the primary cause of bad taste and odor in drinking water.
The objectionable taste causes many people to turn to other less healthful beverages like soft drinks, tea or other sweetened drinks.
A decreased intake of water, for any reason, can only result in a lower degree of health.

The good news is that chlorine is one of the easiest substances to remove from our water.
For that reason it logically should serve it’s purpose of keeping our water free from harmful bacteria and water borne diseases right up to the time of consumption, where it should then be removed by quality home water filtration.

No one will argue that chlorine serves an important purpose, and that the hazards of doing away with chlorine are greater than or equal to the related health risks.
The simple truth is that chlorine is likely here to stay.
The idea that we could do away with chlorine any time in the near future is just not realistic.
It is also clear that chlorine represents a very real and serious threat to our health and should be removed in our homes, at the point of use, both from the water we drink and the water we shower in.

Possible Artery Damage

When chlorinated water is run through a hose or carried in a pail followed by milk as in a dairy, “very tenacious, yellowish deposits chemically similar to arterial plaque” form; with unchlorinated water this doesn’t happen.2

CBS’ “Sixty Minutes” show July 11, 1992, displayed two laboratory rats, both of them eating standard rat chow and drinking chlorinated water. One rat was also on pasteurized, homogenized milk.
When the animals were sacrificed, the arteries of the milk-drinking rats were found to be clogged.

Dairy buckets, hoses and rats’ arteries resist the arterial-wall damage known as atherosclerosis. But what can chlorinated water and cow milk, particularly homogenized milk, do to the far more susceptible arteries of humans? Those of young chickens are about as susceptible to such damage as human arteries. As a first approximation, J.M. Price, MD, gave cockerels (roosters less than a year old) only chlorinated water (without milk). They developed arterial plaques; and the stronger the concentration of chlorine, the faster and worse the damage. Cockerels on unchlorinated water developed no such damage.2

The residents of the small town of Roseto, Pennsylvania, had no heart attacks despite a diet rich in saturated animal fats and milk–until they moved away from Roseto’s mountain spring water and drank chlorinated water. After that, consuming the same diet, they had heart attacks.2 The Roseto example is dramatic enough but the needed detailed comparisons and follow-up have never been done.

How closely does the incidence of heart attacks match the areas where, and times when water is chlorinated? Chlorination spread throughout America in the second and third decades of this century, about 20 years before the increase of heart attacks. Light chlorination yielded slow growth of plaques in Price’s cockerels, therefore, chlorination of people’s drinking water at the usual low concentration might have been expected to take at least 10-20 years to produce clinical manifestations of atherosclerosis.

A physician team led by William F. Enos autopsied 300 GIs who had died in battle in the Korean War. These men, who had passed induction examination as healthy, averaged 22.1 years of age. To their shock and amazement, in 77percent of the 300 the pathologists found “gross evidence of arteriosclerosis in the coronary arteries.” In several, one or more heart arteries were partly or completely occluded.3 Although Enos didn’t try to explain his grisly discovery, he assumed arterial clogging had developed gradually. Seeming to support that assumption, almost 20 years later pathologists discovered early arterial damage in 96 percent of nearly 200 consecutive babies who had died from various causes in their first month outside the womb. Two of those babies’ coronary arteries were blocked, causing infantile heart attacks.4 Identified as crib deaths, these were related to functionally deficient vitamin B6.5

But did arterial damage in fact develop slowly? The water that the American soldiers had to drink in Korea was so heavily chlorinated that many could hardly tolerate it. In Vietnam, too, autopsies of American solders found heart artery damage.6 Again, water supplied to them had been heavily chlorinated.2 Did much of the soldiers’ arterial damage develop not gradually but quickly as in Dr. Price’s cockerels? The truth–slow or rapid development of clogging–may never be known. Interestingly, from 1950 to 1965 while heart attacks increased, on a population level arterial lesions did not increase;7 the major growth was in clotting.

Relation to Melanoma and Cancers

Studies in Belgium have related devel-opment of deadly malignant melanoma to consumption of chlorinated water.28
Drinking and swimming in chlorinated water can cause melanoma.29,30,31
Sodium hypochlorite, used in chlorination of water for swimming pools, is mutagenic in the Ames test and other mutagenicity tests.32,33
Redheads and blonds are disproportionately melanoma-prone; their skin contains a relative excess of pheomelanins34 compared to darker people.35
Franz Rampen of the Netherlands reports worldwide pollution of rivers and oceans and chlorination of swimming pool water have led to an increase in melanoma.36,37

Long-term risks of consuming chlorinated water include excessive free radical formation, which accelerates aging, increases vulnerability to genetic mutation and cancer development, hinders cholesterol metabolism, and promotes hardening of arteries.

Excess free radicals created by chlorinated water also generate dangerous toxins in the body.
These have been directly linked to liver malfunction, weakening of the immune system and pre-arteriosclerotic changes in arteries.
Excessive free radicals have been linked also to alterations of cellular DNA.42 Chlorine also destroys antioxidant vitamin E,2 which is needed to counteract excess oxysterols/free radicals for cardiac and anti-cancer protection.

Industrial chemist J.P. Bercz, PhD, showed in 1992 that chlorinated water alters and destroys unsaturated essential fatty acids (EFAs), the building blocks of people's brains and central nervous systems. The compound hypochlorite, created when chlorine mixes with water, generates excess free radicals; these oxidize EFAs, turning them rancid.

Trihalomethanes ( THMs ) created as a byproduct of chlorinating water,
can be absorbed by drinking chlorinated water, through the skin in bath, shower and pools.
They are proven to be a possible cause of cancer ( carcinogenics ) and
heart disease ( atherosclerosis and resulting entities such as heart attacks and stroke ).

Avoid taking long and hot showers, baths with chlorinated water, extended swimming in public chlorinated pools

THMs are formed when organic material and or bacteria and chlorinated water act together.
( note : Myhouseinparadise is also located in the region with the purest air ( according to Nasa ) ).

While we receive the wind ALWAYS first hand from above the Atlantic ocean ( saturated with healthy negative ions and with the lowest radon concentration on earth ).
Further no industry nearby, no diesel cars, no commercial vessels closer then 20 km (not allowed).

Fertilizer, insecticides and herbicides : there is no agricultural activity nearby and totally absent in our watershed.
We are located in the middle of a reserve of over 650 ha that is a complete watershed at the same time.

Our pools is the only place were water is chlorinated under certain conditions.

However since a) the source is mineral water without bacteria b) we have the best filtering system against bacteria the chlorination level is the lowest you can get c) our pools have special wet areas were the UV of the abundant sun helps kill bacteria with and the subsequent filtering.
You never had a good or perfect swim if you did not have one in Myhouseinparadise.
On top of this we will soon feature salination of the pool water to a degree that is equal or just above the salination of your bodies cell water.
This means that
This even while we believe levels of chlorine and bacteria
Bacteria come naturally with rain even with the purest air but in our case chlorine and bacteria are that insignificant ( fraction of normal pools ) and not elevated enough to form THMs.
While we believe or pools have insignificant levels or even absence of bacteria (and chlorine) so no subsequent THMs can form, the salination up to cell level will make that the body will not absorb water from the ( as it will in any other pool so better have good water ) and impossibilitates absorbing THMs if there were.
In addition of avoiding any absorption by the body the salination offers additional disinfestation ( and in higher levels chlorination obsolete and brings the chances for formation and absorption zero ).
For a total spa effect you can further increase the salination of your pool for additional therapeutic value.

Rio Grande do Norte ( the region West from Touros has one of the purest salts of the world and is one of the biggest exporters of the world ) ( perfect combination of the purest seawater, purest air and lots of sun because of a unique semi-arid climate at the equator ).

Our pools have at least one special covered underground chamber adapted to receive ionisation or electrolyse instalation for those who want ( but this chamber also receives the excess water from infinity pool and or wet area and automaticaly controls and fills up the water level of your pool and wet area ).
